South African Summers are world renown, and draw international tourists to our shores and game reserves year after year, and while the glorious Summer days provide hours of enjoyment, what many soon learn is that the South African Sun and Summer party lifestyle takes its toll on our skin. So it is not surprisingly that the SA male grooming sector has grown phenomenally over the last few years and is now a very important market to international cosmetic houses – recognising the need for skincare products formulated specifically for active, outdoor SA men. L’Occitane en Provence offers a fantastic Vendon range that is, well, ideally, specifically and exclusively for men who enjoy the outdoors and who are increasingly becoming more aware of personal grooming.
While the Vendon range is a vast one, including a face wash, moisturizer, fragrance, soap, shower gel, shaving cream, and and eye gel roll on, we were lucky enough to be given the face wash and the eye gel to test.
So what makes this special?
Well, I am a huge fan of L’Occitane simply because the company understands that natural plants and flowers hold elements that are perfectly suited for our bodies, instead of products that are synthetically created in labs and that have no link to the natural world. The Vendon range promises invigoration and energy, and provides this by using a mixture of peppermint essential oils (for purifying the skin), Sea-buckthorn water (for moisture), genepi extract (for protection) and spring water (so that no impurities enter the mix). This mixture creates a surprisingly foamy and soap free cleaner that gets rid of impurities and that nasty sebum, so that the face is re-energised, with a matte and fresh feel.
If there is one thing that men want in their skin care programme is that is is fast (both in application as well as response). The Verdon Instant Energy Eye Gel Roll-On does just this. A quick application to around the eye area immediately helps to reduce dark circles, lines and puffiness brought on by late nights, excessive partying and days in the sun (this was an extremely useful product for me while in NYC – using it every morning to hide the evidence of late nights out). The magic of this product is the roller ball applicator which helps drive cellular microcirculation and eye area decongestion. Said quickly – the roller ball is quick and easy to apply, and does a bunch of stuff to work damn quick.
So seriously, if you want to get a men’s product range that is formulated for men and won’t get you strange stares in the gym, the Vendon range is perfect, and available at any of the L’Occitane stores (Hyde Park, Melrose Arch, Waterfront, Menlyn Mall, Gateway and Cavendish) or Dischem’s countrywide. The 10ml Vendon Eye Gel Roll-On retails at around R250 and the Vendon Face Wash retails at around R215.
