April the 9th is International Gin & Tonic Day (but don’t worry, apparently there is a second international Gin & Tonic Day on 19 October), and while I may not really need a reason to enjoy my G&T, at least I can pour and enjoy my drink with a particular celebration in mind.
A Gin & Tonic seems like a pretty easy drink to make, however knowing your gin and knowing the correct pairing of tonic (as well as the quantities) will go a long way in making sure your G&T is not just drinkable, but also very enjoyable.
So, the kind people at Hendrick’s Gin have provided us with a rather easy setup by step guide from their global brand ambassador Ally Martin.
Hendrick’s Gin & Tonic
Ingredients:
- 50 ml HENDRICK’S GIN
- 150 ml Tonic Water
- 3 Thinly sliced rounds of cucumber
Preparation:
- Combine all ingredients in a highball glass filled with cubed ice.
- Lightly stir and serve.
- Garnish with 3 thinly sliced rounds of cucumber.
And while I enjoy a good G&T, I also appreciate other gin cocktails that do not use tonic at all, and one of my absolute favourites is the Gin Mule – a glorious mixture of gin, ginger beer, lime. and cucumber. It’s a wonderfully refreshing cocktail, perhaps to enjoy with friends (be they with you are steaming through a chat service – which has become the norm around the world nowadays).
