It seems strange that, with all the technological advancements made over the past years, that there are still instances where we can’t believe technology has not solved basic problems. Why, if we can have technology that allows us to find our lost goods, speak to friends thousands of miles away, send satellites to the furthest reaches of the universe, can we not have simple technology that stops people and cyclists from being run over. Thankfully, Volvo has taken the lead and have introduced new cyclist detection technology.
Here is a video, which illustrates exactly how the cyclist detection technology works – simply taking control of the car away from the driver, and implementing a full break when it calculates that an impact is imminent.
Simply put, this is yet another reason why we should be considering a Volvo, and further, why other vehicle brands are not also considering the technology being developed by Volvo for inclusion in their cars. Seriously, I hope that such technology is not only adopted by further car brands willingly, but that legislation is passed that this type of technology in mandatory in cars in the not to distant future. This type of technology will save countless lives; not only of the cyclists, but also of the drivers that go through serious stress and guilt of accidentally killing someone.
